Topic: Fat Transfer for Treatment of Adult Onset Hemifacial Atrophy in Parry
Romberg Disease: A Case Report
Abstract:
Parry-Romberg Syndrome Disease is an uncommon disorder which characterized with progressive
hemifacial atrophy i.e progressive unilateral loss of adipose tissue and underlying structures including
muscle, cartilage, and bone, often with little or no sclerosis.
The onset is slow and it begins usually during the first 2 decades of life, more often between the ages of 5
and 15, but later presentations have been described.
Variety of treatment options have been described, these have included fat grafts, dermis fat grafts, fascia
and muscle grafts, cartilage and bone augmentation, orthognathic surgery, microvascular reconstruction
and stem cell regeneration of bone and soft tissues.
The case we presented here is an adult onset Parry Romberg Disease that we treated with fat grafting.
Early 3 months result shows a good result, with small amount of resorption and another fat grafting and
laser therapy on the second session.
